Spearfishing Striped Bass is legal in New Jersey. At first I thought this was some knucklehead spearing a Striper with a pole spear but after watching it, I can see he is quite experienced. I would not suggest anyone doing this due to the simple fact that it is too easy to loose a fish like this on a pole spear. Kids, if you want to get into spearfishing, don't do it to be cool, do it because you want to eat the fish and experience the hunt while learning to respecting the ocean.

You need to make sure that you really pay attention to your area guidelines. In Massachusetts a striper needs to be 28 inches in length to be a keeper. In fact i think that it is not allowed to spear stripers in MA. Even so, it is pretty tough to tell underwater what is legal and what isn't. Everything is 20% larger looking underwater.

I dont want to rain on your parade. But my experience has shown me that spear fishing for game fish is the begining of the end. Everyplace it has started they wiped them out from greed. In 5 years from now your fishing spots will all be empty. Such is the nature of this sport.

I guess it depends on where your doing this but I don't know if I would want to leave blood in the water around where I'm diving, might attract some unwanted attention. SSSHHHARRRKKK!!!!!

Yes it is legal. I don't know anything about surface fishing with a bow. I have heard of people doing that. Anyway NJ is very friendly to underwater fishermen (and women...lol). |
